SEND Outreach services: Early Years Inclusion Service (EYIS)

We work with parents, carers and professionals to take an integrated approach to the planning and support of young children (under statutory school age).

Support from SEND early years keyworkers

Keyworkers support and signpost families to appropriate services before their child starts at an early year’s setting.

The Key Worker works with families, to make sure they can access all the support and services they may need.

Support from special educational needs coordinators (SENCos)

Area SENCOs support by:

  • providing early years consultation sessions. These include a regular support group to develop reflective thinking and professional development around issues that come up in the early years of a child's life
  • offering advice and support to providers for children under 3
  • making sure non-school, early years providers are inclusive and help identify special educational needs and disabilities in children and support their development

Training and support for childcare and early education providers

They also provide training to providers in the private, voluntary and independent sector (including childminders).

This training aims to make sure children with disabilities and additional needs get appropriate and inclusive childcare and early learning in their setting. This includes training to:

  • develop staff skills in understanding and meeting the needs of children with SEND in their setting
  • understand and implement legislation or guidance about SEND
  • setting-based SENCOs in their role, including induction and Continuing Professional Development
