Support from the Early Years Inclusion Service (EYIS)

Our early years special educational needs and disability (SEND) professionals support children with emerging or complex SEND needs.

The Early Years Inclusion Service (EYIS) can offer a range of support through the SEND 0 to 5 years pathway. This includes universal, targeted or specialist support.

Universal support offer

This support is only available to private, voluntary or independent (PVI) sector early years settings that receive government-funded early learning.

All PVI settings in Royal Greenwich have a named Early Years Area SENCo that will offer general advice, support and training around early identification and SEND issues that arise in a setting.

The Early Years Inclusion Service provides universal support including:

  • a range of online resources you can access for Resources and templates and Early Years SEND Training
  • a consultation line where you can discuss your concerns with an Area SENCo for targeted needs on 0208 921 3311
  • a consultation forum as a regular support group to develop reflective thinking and professional development around issues arising in early years

Targeted support offer to the community and at home

Our SEND Early Years Keyworker will support and signpost families to appropriate services before their child starts in an early years setting.

Using targeted home-based support, the keyworker will consult with the family and other professionals to identify the child’s and family’s needs. This will happen within a certain timeframe and be assessed and reviewed regularly with the parents or carers.

The support that a keyworker can offer may include:

  • coordinating services for children under 3 years with complex needs who are not yet in a setting
  • helping to apply for the Disability Living Allowance (GOV.UK) which can help children and families to access community services such as an early years setting
  • giving advice to families and professionals to make sure the child is included within the community

A child can receive support from the keyworker if they:

  • live in the Royal Borough of Greenwich
  • are not in an educational setting
  • are aged between 0 to 3 years old
  • has complex disabilities
  • are or should be known to 3 or more targeted or specialist services
  • have been referred to Early Years Coordination Team (EYCT)
  • have just moved into the borough and have complex disabilities
