SEND Outreach services: Sensory Team for Deaf and vision impaired children

We work with:

  • pre-school children who are referred to us from medical professionals after a diagnosis
  • children in local mainstream nurseries and schools (including those home schooled)
  • children and young people with additional needs who attend specialist schools
  • young people who attend post-16 provisions
  • families and carers of children with sensory loss 

Support we provide

We support children and young people with a diagnosis of hearing loss or vision impairment that cannot be corrected with glasses alone. 

We provide:

  • advice for parents or carers about their child's diagnosis
  • support with Audiology and Visual Aids
  • assessments for hearing or vision impairment
  • language development, including sign language and use of Braille
  • training for professionals and educational settings on hearing and vision impairment
  • observations and visits of children at home and in educational settings
  • bespoke 1 to 1, or small group teaching blocks to agree targets at home and in educational settings
  • advice and training for educational settings on how to use specialist equipment
  • providing specialist equipment to help students access visual and spoken information
  • attending review meetings with parents or carers
  • producing professional reports
  • liaising with other professionals and networking
  • habilitation support
  • advice on Access Arrangements
