SEND Outreach services: Sensory Team for Deaf and vision impaired children
We work with:
- pre-school children who are referred to us from medical professionals after a diagnosis
- children in local mainstream nurseries and schools (including those home schooled)
- children and young people with additional needs who attend specialist schools
- young people who attend post-16 provisions
- families and carers of children with sensory loss
Support we provide
We support children and young people with a diagnosis of hearing loss or vision impairment that cannot be corrected with glasses alone.
We provide:
- advice for parents or carers about their child's diagnosis
- support with Audiology and Visual Aids
- assessments for hearing or vision impairment
- language development, including sign language and use of Braille
- training for professionals and educational settings on hearing and vision impairment
- observations and visits of children at home and in educational settings
- bespoke 1 to 1, or small group teaching blocks to agree targets at home and in educational settings
- advice and training for educational settings on how to use specialist equipment
- providing specialist equipment to help students access visual and spoken information
- attending review meetings with parents or carers
- producing professional reports
- liaising with other professionals and networking
- habilitation support
- advice on Access Arrangements
