Sensory support for Deafness and vision impairment
Service details
We work with:
- pre-school children with a sensory diagnosis who have been referred to us by a medical professional
- children in mainstream nurseries and schools, and those who are educated at home
- children and young people with additional needs who attend specialist schools
- young people who attend post-16 provision
- families and carers of children with a sensory loss
We offer:
- information and advice to parents and carers about their child's diagnosis
- audiology and visual aid support
- functional assessments for Deafness and vision impairment
- language development, including sign language and use of braille
- training for professionals and educators on Deafness and vision impairment
- visits to, and observations of, children at home or in their educational setting
- bespoke one-to-one or small group teaching sessions for agreed targets that can be delivered at home or in the child’s educational settings
- advice and training to educational settings on the use of specialist equipment
- specialist equipment to support access to visual and spoken information
- attendance at review meetings
- production of professional reports
- continuous liaison with other professionals and networking
- habilitation support
- support and advice on exam and assessment access arrangements
