Repair problems yourself or hire someone to repair them for you

If your problem is something that we can't help you to repair, you can try to fix it yourself or hire a company to come and fix it for you. 

Doing the work yourself

If you decide to do the work yourself, please be safe: do not put yourself or anyone else in danger. We may inspect the standard of the work you have carried out.

You must ask our permission first if you want to make changes or improvements to your home.

Using companies to fix things for you 

Only use competent and qualified companies to fix things in your home.  

Handyperson service

If you're over 60 years old and/or disabled, the Greenwich handyperson service may be able to do some minor repairs for you, like fixing broken toilet seats and changing light bulbs.

Kitchen or bathroom fittings

Any fitting or replacement work in kitchens or bathrooms must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. You must hire a qualified electrician who will give you a certificate to say that the work is safe. Please call us for help:

  • 020 8854 8888 at all other times

Gas or pipes 

Only Gas Safe-registered people can fit, alter or remove gas appliances or pipework. Please call us for help on 0800 317 715 if you have any problems with your gas.

Asbestos 

Asbestos can be extremely dangerous – do not touch it yourself. Please call us if you think you have found asbestos in your home:

  • 020 8921 8900 Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5.30pm, and Friday, 9am to 4.30pm
  • 020 8854 8888 at all other times
