Support from the Early Years Inclusion Service (EYIS)

Targeted support for the community and at home

A SEND early years keyworker can support and signpost families to appropriate services before a child starts in an early years setting.

The keyworker will:

  • work with the family to make sure their child can access all the support and services they need
  • offer targeted home-based support within a time limited framework
  • consult with the family and other professionals involved to identify the needs of the child and the family
  • assess and review the support the child gets regularly with the parent or carer

A keyworker can offer support that may include:

  • coordinating services for children under 3 years with complex needs who are not yet in a setting
  • helping to apply for the Disability Living Allowance (GOV.UK) to help children and families access community services such as an early years setting including funded early learning
  • giving advice to families of children under 3 with complex needs and the professionals working with them, to make sure the child is included within the community

Who can access targeted support

A child can receive support from the SEND early years keyworker if they:

  • live in the Royal Borough of Greenwich
  • are aged between 0 to 3 and not in an educational setting
  • have complex disabilities
  • are or should be known to 3 or more targeted or specialist services
  • have been referred to Early Years Coordination Team (EYCT)
  • have just moved into the borough and have complex disabilities

How to make a referral

You can make a referral if you are a:

  • professional working with the child or family
  • voluntary service working with the child or family

To get targeted support from a keyworker, you'll need to refer the child to the Early Years Co-ordination Team
