Who to talk to if you’re worried about your child’s development
Children under 5 years old
You can talk to your:
- childminder
- nursery
- health visitor from the Greenwich 0 to 4 Health Visiting Service
- GP (doctor)
If your child is in a nursery or pre-school, you can also talk to one of the staff or the special educational needs coordinator (SENCo). They may decide to monitor your child’s progress more closely and advise you to request a referral if they share your concerns.
They may share your concerns and suggest a referral to a child specialist such as a community paediatrician.

Children over 5 years old
You can talk to:
- your child’s class teacher
- the school’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo)
- the School Nursing Service
They may share your concerns and recommend you speak to your child’s GP for a referral to a specialist.
You may also be able to get additional support at school to help your child’s development.

If your concerns are not being listened to
If your child’s school is not concerned but you still are, you can contact our Special Education Needs Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS).
They will give free confidential and impartial advice and support to parents and carers in Royal Greenwich who have children or young people (up to the age of 25) with SEND.
