Telling you about a suspension or exclusion
When the school decide to suspend or exclude your child, the headteacher will tell you about it immediately, usually by phone.
They will then send you a letter or email within one school day to confirm the suspension or exclusion. This will include:
- whether your child has been suspended or excluded
- the date it starts and, if it’s a suspension, how long it will last
- the reasons for it
- how to challenge the decision with the school governors and the date they’ll meet with you (within 15 school days)
- the days your child is not allowed in a public place during school hours
- what arrangements they’ve made to educate your child for the first 5 school days
