About changing schools

When you apply to change your child’s schools during the school year it’s known as an in-year school admission.

It may be in your child’s best interests to change their school during the school year. But it can disrupt your child’s education and may have other impacts.

Why your child might need to change schools

Your child might need to change schools because you:

  • recently moved into the borough
  • are planning to move into the borough soon
  • are moving from one area of the borough to another

If you’re planning to change your child’s school for any other reason, consider:

  • the effect on your child’s education
  • your child’s social and emotional needs
  • your home and family circumstances
  • other options that could resolve your concerns about the current school

The process for changing schools

We manage the application process for some schools, but other schools manage their own in-year admissions.
