Local people were in full voice to discuss our borough’s natural environment at the latest Climate Networking Meeting hosted by the council.
Run by the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s dedicated Sustainability team, these meetings are a safe, friendly space for residents and the council to come together to discuss climate action and environmental issues.
This meeting was first and foremost centred on the borough’s natural environment, highlighting how best to protect and preserve parks, open spaces, tree canopies and habitats where nature can thrive.
Councillor Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, Interim Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport, said: “The turnout at the meeting spoke for itself; our borough’s natural environment is an issue which residents care deeply about. I’m inspired by their passion, and we share the same ultimate goal of protecting our green spaces, trees and parks.
“The climate emergency affects everyone and everything, including our beautiful borough. If you’ve got thoughts about how we can make Greenwich cleaner, greener and more sustainable, get involved and come along to the next meeting.”
The council’s firm commitment to responding to the climate crisis goes back a long way. Having declared a climate emergency in 2019, we went on to develop a robust Carbon Neutral Plan which sets out how we aim to become a net zero local authority in the coming years.
