Volunteering and support for vulnerable residents
The Council has launched a major new initiative to support residents through our new Community Hub that will link thousands of volunteers with opportunities to help people who are most in need of support.
A huge thank you to everyone who has already registered to be a volunteer. You can still sign up here if you would like to help others with things like food shopping, dog walking or friendly phone calls to those self-isolating. Please also register if you are interested in helping our social care teams with their work. This might include working alongside a carer who is visiting people in their homes. We will do all of the appropriate checks, training and support to keep everyone safe.
Our local heroes are already on the ground helping those who urgently need it.
To get help
If you need help because you are vulnerable and self-isolating, and have not got a family member, friend or neighbour who can help, our volunteers could provide support with:
- collecting / delivering prescriptions
- delivering essential food packages
- connecting you to local community services.
Contact us to request support:
Tel: 0800 470 4831
Please note, this is a community response and you should continue, at all times, to follow the advice being given by Public Health England.
Donating personal protective equipment (PPE)
We are collecting and distributing PPE donations to frontline care workers in Royal Greenwich and welcome contributions of sealed equipment.
Items that we require include:
- sealed, unused goggles
- plastic aprons
- fluid repellent face masks
We have sufficient gloves at present but unopened boxes of non-latex gloves are welcome.
Bulk donations, for example, a full or nearly full box of each item on this list, are preferred over individual items, where possible.
Deliveries should be made to The Woolwich Centre by 3.45pm each day, please.
If you have an enquiry about donating, please email email@example.com with the heading ‘PPE donation enquiry’.
Thank you for your support.
