What you need to secure a property

This is when the landlord agrees to let the property to you.  

Before you sign anything, make sure you're happy that the property is:

• safe, for example, by checking the gas safety certificate
• affordable for you

To secure the property, you may need to show the landlord your:

• recent bank statements or payslips
• benefits statements
• employment contract, if you have one
• passport or other document that shows you have the right to live in the UK
