Rent a garage

Who gets priority for a garage

We let garages in order of priority and then by the date of the application.

The table shows a description of each priority group.

Group

Description

A household where anyone who lives there is disabled and the residents are Royal Borough of Greenwich tenants or leaseholders

Current garage tenants whose garage is being closed, for example, to allow for site development, or their garage cannot be repaired

A household experiencing car-related hate crime or domestic abuse and the Multi-Agency Panel recommends allocating a garage

Current Royal Greenwich tenants and leaseholders living nearby and members of their household where this is their permanent home

E1

Other Royal Greenwich residents who are registered disabled

E2

All other Royal Greenwich residents

All applicants who live outside the Royal Borough of Greenwich

Requests for second garages for current Royal Greenwich tenants and leaseholders and members of their household

We will not let garages to Royal Greenwich staff for job-related parking. Staff will be treated as non-residents.

Priority for people with disabilities

We prioritise people with mobility and visual impairments, or households where someone has one of these impairments.

To be eligible for priority, you’ll need to show us original documents that apply to you when we give you a garage or parking space. This could be proof that you:

  • have a Blue Badge
  • get the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • are registered blind or partially sighted
  • have a Motability vehicle
  • get a War Pensioner's mobility supplement
  • get Attendance Allowance

How we manage our garages

To manage our garage stock, we:

  • carry out refurbishment and repairs as necessary
  • demolish garage sites that are beyond economic repair
  • sell or redevelop garage sites for alternative use

If a garage becomes unusable for these reasons, we’ll offer an alternative garage nearby if possible. We’ll prioritise garages for working motor vehicles. We’ll only offer alternative garages to existing garage tenants who are not in rent arrears.

If an alternative garage is not available, we will add you to the garage waiting list and offer a garage if one becomes available.

If you owe us money (arrears)

If you owe us money, for example, you’re a tenant with rent arrears or a leaseholder with service charge arrears, we will not put you onto a garage waiting list until you pay the debt.

If you rent a garage from us and your account falls into arrears, we may repossess the garage.
