How to claim Housing Benefit
You must make a claim online.
You can save the form at any point before you submit it by noting the reference number and clicking Save for later. Your claim is not made until you’ve submitted it. You cannot make any changes to the form once it is submitted.
You can attach supporting documents to your application. If you do not have these ready, you should submit the application and provide the documents separately as we can only start your application from the date we receive it.
Do not delay making your claim as you could lose out on benefit.
You can email us your supporting documents at benefits@royalgreenwich.gov.uk with your:
- name
- address
- claim reference number if you know it
We may need additional information from you, for example if you’re self-employed or a student. If so, you may need to complete an additional form.
Backdating your claim
You can ask for your claim to be backdated although you must have a good reason for the request.
Your claim can be backdated for up to one month before the date of your claim. If you've reached the State Pension age, it can be backdated for 3 months.
To ask for backdating, tell us why in the Anything else section on the application form.
