If a relative lives in your annex and they're not a dependant

If your property has an annex, you can get a 50% Council Tax discount if:

  • the person who lives there is a relative
  • it's the sole or main home of the relative

Check who counts as a relative.

Who can apply

You can apply if you pay Council Tax for the main property, or if you live in the annex.

What you need to apply

You'll need to fill in and send us the application form with proof that you're eligible for the discount.

On the form you'll need to tell us:

  • your name and address
  • your Council Tax account number
  • the name of the relative living in the annex if you're applying for them
  • how you're related
  • the annex address
  • the date they moved in
