Working hours on large construction sites
We can limit when construction sites are allowed to make noise that their neighbours can hear. For general construction, when necessary, we usually limit noisy works to:
- 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
- 8am to 1pm on Saturdays
Noisy work is not allowed on Sundays and bank holidays.
We may put stricter time controls in place for particularly noisy activities, like pile driving. This is to give neighbours some relief from excessive noise.
Sometimes, we may allow activities outside of normal working hours when there’s a good reason to. For example, for health and safety reasons or because it cannot be completed within the time normally allowed.
When we impose time limits
We usually only do this when noise is causing problems for residents. It’s therefore important that you tell us if you’re being disturbed by noise from construction.
We do not restrict the work, but noise from it. If the work is not disturbing anyone, then we do not need to impose restrictions. This means that quiet work could go on at almost any time of the day.
