Construction and demolition noise control

Major construction sites can cause significant levels of noise. Construction works include work to buildings or roads, like:

  • demolition
  • maintenance
  • repair
  • erection
  • construction
  • engineering construction

Noise control methods are a balancing act between the needs of the developer to do the work and the rights of neighbours to the quiet enjoyment of their properties.

The law governing noise from construction sites strives to achieve this balance. We aim to minimise the impact of construction noise on residents.

How we help to control noise

We use 3 main methods to control noise from construction sites, by:

  • restricting working hours
  • setting maximum noise levels
  • making sure firms use of 'best practicable means' to control it
