We may not count paid care workers when working out how many people live in a property. This is also known as being 'disregarded'.

How much discount you could get

This depends on how many people over 18 live in the property.

If you're the only adult living with the person who needs care, you could get a 25% discount.

If you and the person who needs care also live with other 'disregarded' people, you could get a 50% discount.

You will not get a discount if you and the person who needs care live with other adults who are not disregarded.

Even if you're disregarded, you'll need to apply for a discount or exemption. You will not get it automatically.

If your property is empty because you live elsewhere to care for someone, you can also apply for a Council Tax exemption.

You must pay Council Tax while you wait for us to decide if you're eligible for a discount. If you do not pay, we'll start the Council Tax recovery process.
