Overview
We provide support to reduce school suspensions and exclusions, which improves educational outcomes for children. We do this through a joined-up, collaborative approach and partnerships with:
- schools
- alternative provisions
- out-of-borough settings
- council services
- other local organisations
Our approach brings together diverse skills, experience and knowledge. We aim to develop children's confidence at school and affect positive change. We support staff to embed sustainable change that improves outcomes for children.

Service details
We offer several levels of support:
- statutory offer
- core offer
- enhanced offer
- whole school bespoke inclusive practice training
Statutory offer
We provide a statutory service free of charge to all schools and academies. It includes:
- policy and process advice
- challenging in accordance with DfE exclusions guidance
- fair access support, guidance and reviews
- advice and access to tutoring for children with medical needs
- annual reviews of commissioned alternative provision
Core offer
We provide additional services in our core offer.
Planning, delivery and monitoring appropriate support and intervention for children:
- at risk of exclusion
- with additional needs that impact on their ability to access mainstream education
- placed in a non-mainstream education setting
Individual support with inclusive practice:
- developing and reviewing a Pupil Support Plan (PSP)
- reintegration support including an initial meeting, target-setting, attending review meetings and supporting families through the process
- support with access to our Fair Access Panel (FAP) to facilitate managed moves, fresh starts and transfers to participating schools
- advice and consultation on managing exclusions and using statutory exclusion guidance
- observation of, and support with, individual children, and modelling of strategies to improve behaviour and engagement
- advice and support on appropriate placements for children
- quality assurance of alternative provision
- working with groups as well as individual children
- training and support for staff members (twilight session)
Enhanced offer
Our enhanced offer is whole-school support with inclusive practice as part of a quality assurance process.
For Ofsted inspection preparation, this includes:
- reviewing inclusive practices to support behaviour for learning
- evaluating the impact of systems and procedures to manage and improve inclusive practice
- analysing the school's suspension and exclusion data (internal and external) with a key focus on groups and addressing any disproportionality
- evaluating behaviour for learning in lessons
- evaluating inclusive practices in the school setting and for children in the wider community (out of school hours)
- discussions with key stakeholder groups, such as the senior leadership team (SLT), teachers, non-teaching staff, governors, children, parents and carers
- staff training to support inclusive practice
