Scheme times and roads
Certain roads in west and east Greenwich are closed to traffic Monday to Friday for 3 hours in the mornings and 4 hours in the afternoons. The times are:
- 7am to 10am
- 3pm to 7pm
Residents and businesses within the scheme area can always access their properties, but some people who drive may need to take a different route.
Check if you can apply for an access permit
Check which vehicles and organisations are exempt
We monitor traffic using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. If you drive through during the restricted times, you’ll get a penalty charge notice (PCN).

How we monitor the scheme
We looked at data before, during and after the trial period. This helped us to compare the impact of the scheme and decide to make it permanent in February 2026.
We will continue to monitor the scheme in 2026 to understand any further impacts of it. This will also help us to make sure it stays effective and fit for purpose.

We know that some areas near the scheme area have experienced increased traffic and we’re exploring ways to change this. We’ll publish a separate report on possible improvements and ask residents for their views.
