Becoming a 'dementia-friendly' borough

The free event is part of the Council and partners' on-going efforts to support people with dementia and make everyday life easier by becoming a 'dementia-friendly borough'.

Helping businesses become 'dementia aware'

Businesses are being offered advice on how to make their service better for people with dementia by improving layouts, signage and access, along with free training for staff. Once a business is judged to be dementia friendly they will receive a 'dementia aware' sticker to display in their window to help people with dementia and their friends and family find a recommended place to shop, eat or drink.

Working to improve quality of life

Cllr David Gardner, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: "We understand that living with dementia is often difficult and so we are working hard to improve the quality of life for residents with dementia by creating a more inclusive borough for all.

"Our free event will help raise awareness of the condition in a comfortable environment and give a chance to ask questions, find out what support is available or simply take part in some fun activities."
