Family Hubs soft launch in Thamesmead Commons

Published: Monday, 26th June 2023

The four hubs will form part of the wider Family Hub Network that includes 23 children’s centres and four youth hubs across the borough.

Family Hubs opening in Children’s Centres across Royal Greenwich will act as the first point of contact for families who need support or advice to access financial help, keep children happy and active, from pregnancy to teenage years.

The hubs provided a free, friendly and easy way to get consistent support at different stages of parenthood, offering a safe space when families need it the most.

A £4.1 million grant issued between now and 2025, will mean that Family Hubs offer complete support in matters that affect children up until 19 years old, and up those up to 25 years old for children and young adults with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND).

Councillor Matt Morrow, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People: “The Council is delighted to be launching four Family Hubs to further ensure that children across our borough get a great start in life."

“Supporting families during times of need is essential to ensuring that children and young people can reach their full potential. Now more than ever families facing financial difficulty should be able to access the right support, advice and opportunities to improve their situation and thrive in our borough.”

The majority of funding comes from the NHS Start for Life campaign, with the Council’s promise to run smooth and efficient Hubs for all that need it.

The first of our hubs launched at Waterways Children’s Centre in Thamesmead on Saturday, 24 June, with three more hubs set to be launched from September 2023 at Brookhill Children’s Centre in Woolwich, Quaggy Children’s Centre in Greenwich and Storkway Children’s Centre in Kidbrooke.

Lisa Walsh, GLL’s Childrens’ Centres Lead said: “GLL are so excited to be an operational part of the new Family Hub network, working alongside key partners and organisations across our Children’s Centres in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

“Our experienced, professionally trained staff are really looking forward to hosting this innovative development and fulfilling our social enterprise’s mission to make life better for everyone.”
