Families with children and young people with SEND are being asked about our plans to make travelling to and from school easier.

We are consulting on changes to Personal Travel Assistance Budgets and independent travel training, to make it easier for young people to travel around the borough and beyond.

We want to promote greater independence for our children and young people with SEND. We also want to give more flexibility and choice to parents/carers and families.

Our proposals would make PTABs more generous and easier to access for families, giving them freedom to do what is best for their young person.

Cllr Matt Morrow, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Having the confidence to travel independently is key for any young person as they grow up, giving them the skills they need to get to school, meet their friends or get to work.

“We know the support we’re currently offering through personal budgets and training can be developed, so we want to hear from parents/carers and young people with SEND to make sure we’re giving them the support they want.”
