"The suspected murder of Sarah Everard, alongside the horrific experiences of countless women and non-binary people of violence and abuse at the hands of men, has triggered immense pain and sadness.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Sarah’s family and friends, and to anyone who has been affected by this tragedy and others like it.

We are aware that there may be vigils going ahead this weekend. COVID-19 restrictions remain in place, including restrictions on outdoor gatherings. If you want to pay your respects, please practice the hands-face-space advice by wearing a facemask, keeping space between yourself and others, and using hand-sanitizer.

We remain committed to making our society safe for all women and are listening to concerns from across the borough about how we can play our part in facilitating change."

Cllr Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member Community Safety and Enforcement.
