Children eating

Published: Wednesday, 31st July 2019

Royal Greenwich is once again providing free nourishing meals to school-aged children during the school holidays to combat holiday hunger.

Cllr Danny Thorpe, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “We recognise that eating regularly is essential for growing minds. Recent austerity measures from our government have meant that some families in our borough are struggling. Supporting children, where we can, to ensure they remain healthy and enjoy their holiday, will go some way to making sure they don’t get left behind when they return to school.”

Meals are available at 16 locations, throughout the borough, every week day, until 30 August. Booking isn’t required, but children under 10 must be accompanied at the youth clubs and children under six will need to be accompanied at the adventure playgrounds.

To ensure that young people in our borough have a fresh, nutritious meal available to them through the whole summer break, we have teamed up with Greenwich Co-operative Development Agency (GCDA), who will be serving the pre-prepared meals from mobile kitchens, Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), and Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), who are also part-funding some of the sessions.
