Approval for a drinks licence for London Union, operators of Street Feast, on the site of the former Woolwich Covered Market on Plumstead Road was granted Tuesday night.

Street Feast is now on course to open in March and will operate on the site for at least two years until the proposed redevelopment of this area begins.

Street Feast operates vibrant street food day and night markets, with a range of independent traders selling food from around the globe, as well as specialist bars, activities, events and music.

'Wonderful news for Woolwich'

Cllr Danny Thorpe, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainability: "The arrival of Street Feast is wonderful news for Woolwich and a crucial element of our masterplan to regenerate the town centre.

"Street Feast, alongside the new Crossrail link arriving later this year, will pave the way for revitalising Woolwich and making it a place that will be enjoyed by local families and residents as well as attracting new visitors."

Creating a new landmark destination

The planned redevelopment of Spray Street, which includes the Covered Market, will create a new landmark destination and gateway to Woolwich town centre. It will include hundreds of new homes as well as restaurants, offices, shops, cafes, leisure facilities such as a cinema, and new and improved public spaces.

A section of the nearby Royal Arsenal riverfront in Woolwich is being transformed into a 16,500-square-metre creative hub. The Woolwich Creative District will turn unused Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings into a space that will include large scale performance venues as well as studio and rehearsal spaces and provide a home for national and international theatre companies.

Street Feast was chosen after a full competitive process carried out by the Council.
