We recently hosted Deputy Mayor for Transport and Deputy Chair of Transport for London (TfL), Seb Dance, for the latest stop of the Big Community Transport Tour.

The Deputy Mayor for Transport was shown around by Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and Councillor Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport, to see how we’re making Royal Greenwich one of the cleanest, greenest and safest places to travel.

The whistlestop tour visited some of the flagship initiatives which make transport in our borough accessible, sustainable and affordable, including proposals for Greenwich town centre, the West and East Greenwich Neighbourhood Management SchemeCycleway 4new bus routes like the Superloop SL11 and Woolwich town centre.

Not only are these initiatives transforming our corner of the capital, but they also support the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) aim for 80% of Londoners’ journeys to be made on foot, cycle or public transport by 2041.

Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the major improvements we’re making to the transport network in Royal Greenwich and what they mean for the bigger picture in our borough and beyond. By getting things done and working in partnership with the GLA and TfL, we’re matching the Mayor’s ambition of making London the world’s greenest global city.”

Councillor Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport, said: “It was great to see Seb last week, and it’s clear we’re in agreement that speedy, green, affordable transport in our borough is better for residents, better for Londoners and better for the planet.  We’re making great progress already in Royal Greenwich and I’m excited to see where our continued collaborations take us.”

Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor for Transport and Deputy Chair of TfL, said: “I was delighted to visit Greenwich to meet with the council and local community groups and hear directly from them how transport is working for people across the borough.

“The visit provided a valuable opportunity to see a number of flagship projects, including proposals for the regeneration of Greenwich Town Centre and works on the extension of Cycleway 4, that are helping make travel in Greenwich more accessible, sustainable and affordable. The Big Community Transport Tour allows us to see the impact of these initiatives on the ground and understand where we can go further, as we build a better London for everyone.”

The day closed with a roundtable discussion for community groups, who had the opportunity to discuss and hear about the transport issues which mattered most to them.
