The way you pay for your water services is changing. This only affects Council tenants who currently pay their water charges alongside their rent.

From 1 April 2020, you will start paying for water and wastewater services directly to Thames Water.

What is changing?

You currently pay water charges alongside your rent. The water is supplied by Thames Water and we collect the charges on behalf of Thames Water.

This will change from 1 April 2020, when you will need to pay Thames Water directly for your water services. Thames Water will send you a water bill and it will be your responsibility to pay them directly for these services.

Why is this changing?

Thames Water has decided that it is simpler and clearer if tenants pay them directly for their water charges. Thames Water will give you further details on this and tell you about their full range of services, including what is available for people who need extra help and support.

What should I do now?

You do not need to do anything yet, and you should continue paying your water charges with your rent until 31 March 2020.

We are working together with Thames Water to make sure you are supported through this change.

Thames Water will contact you after 20 January 2020 to provide more information about what will happen and when. You do not need to take any action for now.
