Apply for a private rented property licence

Most licences are valid for 5 years.  

We may issue a licence for a shorter time, for example:  

• in cases of previous mismanagement
• if the leaseholder or mortgage lender does not give their permission for you to use the property as an HMO or single household letting 

In all cases, you’ll need to renew the licence when it runs out. 

To keep it valid, you must send us updated documents, for example, gas safety certificates.
