Our monthly music series reaches the Caribbean for a unique double-bill featuring Cuban and Haitian music. The London Lucumi Choir and Germa Adan both have strong roots in Afro-Cuban and Afro-Haitian traditions, which heavily influence their music. The London Lucumi Choir specializes in Afro-Cuban spiritual songs accompanied by traditional drums, while Germa Adan draws from Haitian, American and English folk to create her unique sound. Both artists are a testament to the rich and diverse cultural traditions of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora and serve as a celebration of the resilience and creativity of the people who have carried these traditions across borders and through generations.

London Lucumi Choir:

The London Lucumi Choir is a unique group of singers who specialize in Afro-Cuban spiritual songs in Lucumi and other Afro-Cuban dialects, as well as Spanish. The choir's performances are known for their powerful vocals, as well as their use of bata drums. The group, which was founded in 2006, is open to all and has released five albums over the years.

Germa Adan:

Germa Adan is a Haitian folk artist who is making waves on the UK folk scene. She is known for her ability to write and perform in the style of a storyteller, with a strong undercurrent of social consciousness at the heart of her music. Germa creates an ethereal tapestry of rich vocal and stringed harmonies, influenced by the overlapping identities of culture and musical styles, particularly Haitian, American and British folk.
