Ustadh Jabed Choudhury gives a beginners’ crash course on Ottoman calligraphy. The pen and composition will be yours to keep!

The extraordinary art of calligraphy was central to culture in the Ottoman Empire throughout its 600 years. It was treasured not only for its ornamental beauty, but, for many Ottoman Muslim communities, because it represented the word of God. In this two-hour workshop, Ustadh Jabed Choudhury gives a beginners’ crash course on Ottoman calligraphy. He shares the art of Ottoman Diwani script, as learned from master calligrapher Dr Nassar Mansour. You’ll learn how to cut your reed pen, practice letters, and make your own composition – the pen and composition will be yours to keep. £25 includes a hot drink and cake.
