What you need to apply

You'll need to fill in and send us the application form with proof that you're eligible for the exemption.  

On the form you'll need to tell us:

  • your name
  • your Council Tax account number
  • the address of your empty property
  • when you left your property
  • the address of where you're living now
  • the name of the person you care for
  • the address of the person you care for
  • the address of where you care for the person

Proof we need

A letter from a professional, for example a doctor, confirming why the person needs care. It should include your name and the name and address of the person you care for.

What happens next

It can take up to 21 working days for us to process your application and decide if you're eligible.

We may ask you for more proof.

If you're eligible for the discount, we'll send you an updated bill.

If we decide you're not eligible, we'll tell you in writing. You can appeal our decision.
