Apply for a Council Tax exemption if you live elsewhere to care for someone

If your property is empty because you live elsewhere to care for someone, it's exempt from Council Tax.
You must be better able to care for someone by living elsewhere than if you lived at the property you left empty.
You do not need to live at the same property as the person you care for.
You do not need to be eligible for the care worker discount.
If you still live in the property, you could apply for a discount as a paid care worker.
You'll need to apply for this exemption. You will not get it automatically.
You must pay Council Tax while you wait for us to decide if you're eligible for a discount. If you do not pay, we'll start the Council Tax recovery process.
