Outcome 3: Public spaces are clean, attractive and a source of pride
We will:
- keep the borough clean by targeting our efforts where they are needed most and taking action against fly-tipping and those who damage our environment
- invest in our parks, playgrounds, sports facilities and community centres so they are welcoming, working alongside residents who share our pride in the place we live
Our commitments to cleaner streets
We commit to:
- make it easier to get rid of unwanted items, while using new technology to identify and prosecute fly-tippers
- making our bulky waste service more reliable and responsive and cutting the fee to £5
Our commitments to parks, playgrounds and sports facilities
We commit to:
- refurbishing East Greenwich Pleasance Playground
- installing disabled access at Plumstead Common Bowls
- refurbishing the boardwalk in Sutcliffe Park nature reserve.
- more accessible and sustainable play opportunities at our adventure play centres
- explore options for a new leisure centre and library in Thamesmead
- invest in sports facilities, playgrounds and multi-use game facilities across the borough
Our commitments to the community
We commit to:
- support local projects across the borough, with £1 million for community-led improvements that respond to local priorities and create lasting benefits
- rolling out multi-use community hubs across the borough including the pilot community hub in Coldharbour where people can access local services
- making sure our community spaces meet the needs of local communities and the groups that use them, are in good condition and are financially sustainable
Our commitments to our high streets
We commit to:
- cleaning up our high streets by using new government powers over vape shops, adult gaming centres and betting shops
- take more enforcement action against illegal vapes and cigarettes and the strongest penalties for those who target children
