Outcome 1: Easier, safer and cleaner to get around
We will:
- make it easier, safer and cleaner to get around the borough by supporting more journeys on foot, by bike and public transport and improve air quality
- make our streets safer, calmer with quieter neighbourhoods, lower speeds near our schools and well-maintained roads and pavements
- open new connections across the borough, so it’s cleaner and easier to get around however they choose to travel
Our street quality and safety commitments
We commit to:
- investing at least £8m to improving our roads and pavements
- restricting traffic around the start and end of the school day to improve road safety and air quality for children going to school in the borough
- on-street improvements such as safe road crossings, secure cycle parking and storage hangars, dockless bike parking bays so e-bikes are parked safely, and better access to sustainable travel
- a borough-wide 20mph speed limit to improve safety on our streets
- more cycle routes to create safe, sustainable travel options for our residents
Our sustainable travel commitments
We commit to:
- installing 2,000 public EV chargers and a pilot programme to install EV chargers for residents without off-street parking
- offering every eligible child in the borough a £150 voucher towards a bike, scooter or safety equipment
- more car clubs across the borough for residents to travel affordably and sustainably
Our public transport commitments
We commit to:
- upgrading local train stations in the borough
- improving infrastructure and assessing a potential second entrance for the Woolwich Elizabeth Line station
- upgrading the Greenwich and Woolwich Foot Tunnels, with new lifts, better lighting and restored heritage features, so both crossings offer reliable step-free access under the river
