About our current Mayor

The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich is Councillor Jit Ranabhat.

Councillor Ranabhat was first elected in 2022 to represent Plumstead and Glyndon. In his time as a councillor, he has served as:

  • Chair of the Licencing Sub-committee
  • a panel member of the Woolwich and Thamesmead Area Planning Committee and the Corporate Finance and Performances Scrutiny Panel
  • Our Greenwich Champion for Neighbourhoods, Housing and Development

He has lived and worked in Royal Greenwich since he migrated from Nepal in 2008. Councillor Ranabhat is the borough’s first Nepalese Mayor. His wife, Gaumaya Gurung Ranabhat, is the Mayoress.

Councillor Ranabhat has worked in security, engineering and construction. He also uses his knowledge and passion for public engagement to support the community through the Royal Borough of Greenwich and non-resident Nepalese societies.

He has also been an active member of organisations including:

  • Greenwich Leisure Ltd Libraries Board
  • London Youth Games
  • Plumstead Almhouses
  • Edmond Godson Charity

Mayor's charity

The Mayor supports the Commonwealth, Gurkha Garden Project and Bowel Cancer UK.
