Our air quality responsibilities
As a local authority, we have a duty to monitor air quality and take action if pollution levels exceed national limits.
How we monitor air pollution
We use a range of tools to track air quality across the borough.
Automatic monitoring stations
These measure pollutants like nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), and ozone in real time.
Monitoring stations and diffusion tubes
We have 10 fixed monitoring stations in the borough and 44 lamppost-mounted diffusion tubes.
View the data from the fixed stations live on the London Air website.
Find data from the diffusion tubes in our air quality annual status reports.
Breathe London has air quality measuring sensors, known as Nodes, across London. Find a node and view data about the air quality around it.
Community sensors
We’re trialing solar-powered sensors at schools and other sites to make air quality data more accessible.
AirTEXT alerts
We support this free service. Sign up to get pollution alerts by text, email or voicemail.
