Preparing your application

You cannot change or modify your marriage or civil partnership venue approval after you’ve submitted your application. It’s worth spending some time preparing what you’ll need.

Guidance notes for the approval of a premises as a venue for civil marriages and civil partnerships:

Prepare the required information and documents

You’ll need to provide the following information in your application. 

Details of the responsible person 

The name, address and email of the person who is responsible for meeting the conditions attached to the approval if it’s granted. 

Plan of the premises 

A plan that clearly identifies: 

  • each room and linked outdoor area you’re seeking approval for
  • the name of each room or area
  • the maximum capacity figure for each area
  • the location of a separate private room for pre-ceremony interviews 

Electrical safety certification 

A copy of an up-to-date Electrical Installation Inspection Certificate or Periodic Inspection Report demonstrating that the premises is of a satisfactory standard. 

 If the report indicates an ‘unsatisfactory’ standard, you must supply any associated documents to evidence the works undertaken to ensure the safety and suitability of any electrical works. 

Fire risk assessment 

A copy of the premises' Fire Risk Assessment demonstrating the premises is of a suitable and sufficient standard under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
