You can book a collection for household items which are too large to be collected as part of your usual household waste collections.
It costs a fixed fee of £13.31 per item. If you’re a council tenant this fee is already paid for within your service charge.
It costs £4.19 per bag with a minimum charge of £16.76 (4 bags). A maximum of 5 bags is allowed per collection.
What we collect
You can use this service to get rid of items like:
- furniture
- domestic household boilers
- bed frames, bed bases and mattresses
- doors
- electrical items like fridges and freezers, TVs, washing machines and hoovers
Items that come together, like a sofa set or table and chairs, are considered one item.
What we do not collect
We do not collect:
- hazardous waste like household chemicals and paint
- clinical waste like medical sharps boxes
- business waste
Instead you should:
- book a hazardous waste collection with the City of London
- book a clinical waste collection
- book a business waste collection
What to do on collection day
If you have booked an appointment:
- only put out the items that you have booked for collection
- put the items at the front of your property by 6am on appointment day
- do not obstruct the pavement or street
We'll only collect items that:
- you list for collection
- the collection crew can get to
You’ll need to put some items in strong bags to make them easy to carry. These include:
- carpets (cut up so it can fit in the bags)
- rubble
- soil
- tiles
The bag should not be bigger than a standard bin bag.
Where to leave your items
Your items should be stacked safely and somewhere accessible, such as the front of your property.
We cannot collect from:
- locked storage spaces such as bin rooms
- gated carparks (unless a code is provided)
We cannot enter your property to help you bring items outside.
Cancelling a collection appointment
Call 020 8921 4661 to cancel a collection appointment.
You must cancel at least 48 hours before your appointment to get a refund.
Other ways to get rid of large items
You can also get rid of large items by:
- taking them to the Reuse and Recycling Centre
- hiring a skip
- paying another licensed waste carrier to dispose of the goods
- donating good quality items through a charity or reuse network like Freegle
