Sensory Enablement Service

The Sensory Enablement Service is here to support adults who are blind, partially sighted, deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind living in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

We support individuals to lead lives that are as independent and inclusive as possible, by providing a personalised service where the person is given choice and control over their life.

Our staff have specialist knowledge and skills to support residents, carers, and family members to enable them to achieve positive outcomes.

Who can access the service?

To access the service, you must live in Royal Greenwich, be over the age of 18 and have a sensory loss (such as being blind, partially sighted, deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind).

How can we help?

We can provide:

  • an assessment of your needs related to your sight loss, hearing loss or dual sensory loss

  • a rehabilitation service, including mobility (and travel training) and daily living skills training for adults with sight loss

  • equipment for day-to-day living, for example flashing doorbells, television amplifiers and other alerting devices

  • information and advice on support available locally, regionally and nationally

  • we can signpost you to training in communication skills - using Braille, British Sign Language or Deaf Blind Manual

  • we can signpost you to providers of specialist IT equipment, and to where you can obtain grants for this.

  • we can help link you with local community groups and the NHS who work with adults that have a sensory loss.

  • support to access BSL interpreters

  • sensory loss registration.

We do not provide magnifying glasses, magnifiers, or hearing aids. If you need hearing aids, please contact your GP who can refer you to a hearing aid service. If you need magnifying glasses or magnifiers, please contact your eye clinic.
