Find SEND education opportunities after you turn 16

When to plan for higher education if you have an EHCP

We'll start taking with you about what you want to do after you turn 16 after your Year 9 EHCP annual review.

When you start Year 11, we'll send you a form. This form will include questions about:

  • your post-16 or college preferences
  • what course you would like to study

You can make multiple choices at this stage. For example, if you want to stay at your current school or college. If you do not want to choose, we'll speak to your nearest college.

Complete and send the form to the SEND Assessment and Review Service so we can record your preferences.

During your Year 11 annual review, we'll check if your preferences are still the same. The annual review usually happens during the autumn term.

Our SEND Careers team will then arrange a Moving to Adulthood meeting. They'll talk about to you about your options and offer information, advice and guidance.
