Understand your housing options
Some young adults will continue to live at home with their parents or carers.
However, some will prefer to get a place to live on their own or live with others.
Supported living
Supported living helps young people live in their own home while meeting their support needs.
If you have a learning disability and may need help living on your own, you can request an assessment of your needs. This is not a test. It’s a way for us to understand what support you need. This may range from a few hours a week to up to 24 hours a day.
There are supported tenancies that have a range of accommodation or adapted properties to suit people with:
- learning disabilities
- physical disabilities
- vision impairment
- hearing loss
You are likely to share a home with a small group of people. There will also be staff to help you with day-to-day activities such as:
- setting up and maintaining a home
- managing finances
- claiming benefits
- developing domestic and life skills
If you need more support, you may be able to get a residential placement. We have a range of residential placements that can meet individual needs and different levels of disability.
