Travel the Thames Path through Royal Greenwich

You can walk, wheel and cycle the traffic-free Thames Path for most of the length of the Thames through Royal Greenwich.

Thames Path cycle routes

The National Cycle Network (NCN) route is also waymarked along the way. It connects Royal Greenwich to Dover in the south and to the Scottish Highlands in the north. The NCN is managed by the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust.

Cross the river 

You can cross the river by: 

  • bridge 

  • foot tunnel 

  • DLR 

Bridge river crossings 

Some bridges along the Thames Path may open for river vessels to pass through.  

We look after the: 

  • Deptford Reach foot bridge 

  • A200 Creek Road bridge 

  • Ha'Penny Hatch foot bridge 

When we lift a bridge, vehicles and pedestrians cannot cross for up to 15 minutes. 

Foot tunnel river crossings 

There are 2 foot tunnels in Woolwich and Greenwich. 

They’re usually open all day but we sometimes need to close the lifts or stairs for maintenance or cleaning.

DLR river crossings 

You can use the DLR to cross the river at: 

  • Woolwich Arsenal station to King George V station and beyond 
  • Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich station to Island Gardens station and beyond
