Be the next hero in Royal Greenwich

A foster parent speaking fondly to her son.

We’re searching for new residents to step up and become a local fostering hero as the country celebrates Foster Care Fortnight 2024.

Foster Care Fortnight, which kicks off on Monday 13 May, is an annual campaign to celebrate the incredible impact foster carers have in the UK. This year’s theme is ‘Fostering Moments’ - and we want to give more residents the chance to have their very first fostering moment.

We urgently need new carers to give young people a home when they need one most – whether it’s a short-term arrangement, or a long-term stay.

A spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Greenwich said: “Foster carers are some of the most unsung heroes in our community and their selflessness deserves all the praise in the world. It’s one of the most life-changing things someone can do, and we’re extremely grateful for our wonderful fostering community here in Greenwich.

“Unfortunately, across the UK, there’s a severe lack in fostering households – in Royal Greenwich we need at least 200 more fostering homes this year. If you have a spare room, you could foster with us and have your very own fostering moments to remember forever.”

All our foster carers get great allowances, exemptions from council tax, expert training and round-the-clock help if they need it.

Whether it’s the first time you’ve ever thought about fostering, or you’ve researched it before and want to go further, we’re on hand to guide you through the process.
