Following consultation, the Council has adopted a new planning guide that will help shape future development in the borough.

The Urban Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) provides guidance on the design of our buildings, streets and spaces and is used to help decide planning applications.

Cllr Aidan Smith, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “We want to ensure that new development in Royal Greenwich is sustainable, well designed and inclusive. The new SPD will ensure that development both protects and enhances the character of our housing, retail and business areas. It encourages well connected, healthy neighbourhoods and promotes a ‘retrofit first’ approach to design, helping in our work to become a carbon neutral borough by 2030.

“I’m grateful to everyone who took part in our consultation and shared their feedback on the draft SPD. It’s important that local people have their say on policies and guidance like this, which play a significant role in shaping the borough for many years to come.”

The consultation received 256 responses from a variety of different stakeholders including local residents, statutory bodies and developers.
