Mayor of Royal Greenwich, Councillor Dominic Mbang, said, “Has someone you know made an outstanding contribution to their local community? 

“Perhaps you have a friend whose quick thinking in an emergency has saved a life? Or maybe a family member who volunteers their time to help others? 

“Whatever your reason, if someone in your life deserves to be recognised for their contribution to our borough, nominate them for a Civic Award today.” 

Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said, “It’s you, our residents, that make Royal Greenwich a brilliant place to be, and we want to show those making a difference just how much we appreciate them. 

“I can’t wait to hear the stories of this year’s inspirational nominees – I know I am going to have a very tough choice deciding on a winner for the Leader’s Award.” 

Nominations can be made across 11 categories: 

• Act of courage | For someone who has shown remarkable courage or bravery 

• Arts and Entertainment | For a person or group who have made an outstanding contribution to arts, culture and entertainment in the borough 

• Community | For a person or group who make an extra effort to give back to their community 

• Environment | For someone who has shown great commitment to improving the environment and tackling climate change 

• Good Neighbour | For a person who is helping their neighbours and making their community a happier and safer place 

• Leader’s Award | Awarded by the Leader of the Council to someone who shows outstanding commitment to and leadership in the borough  

• Lifetime Achievement | For an individual or organisation who has made a significant impact in Royal Greenwich over the last 20 years or more 

• Sporting Achievement | To recognise a person who has achieved success through playing, coaching or organising sport in the borough 

• Teacher or Teaching Assistant of the Year | For someone who is making a daily difference to the children or young people they work with 

• Volunteer | For a person who goes out of their way to help others 

• Young Persons Outstanding Achievement | For a person under 25 years of age who has gone above and beyond in their community. 

The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Wednesday 31 January. All nominations will be reviewed by the judging panel following this date, and the winners will be announced at the Civic Award 2024 ceremony on Thursday 7 March at Woolwich Town Hall.
