Play safe this sexual health awareness week
We’re working with METRO Charity to encourage residents to 'play safe’ this Sexual Health Awareness Week (11 to 17 September). This means feeling empowered to access contraception, testing and treatment as well as understanding consent and healthy relationships.
Cllr Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member, Cabinet Member for Health and Adults’ Social Care said: “We know the most marginalised communities continue to be disproportionally impacted by higher rates of sexually transmitted infections. By providing free and easy access to sexual health services we are taking a step in the right direction when it comes to tackling health inequalities.
“Not only can you order a free test online, but you can also get access to relationship advice, free condoms, contraception and treatment for infections. Need
ing access to these services is way more common than you think and I want anyone thinking of getting touch to know they should not feel embarrassed or ashamed, your concerns will be taken seriously without judgement.”
Approximately 40 under 25-year-olds in Royal Greenwich get tested every week. Free your mind from the worry and join them in getting tested and treated if necessary.
METRO, who are Royal Greenwich’s leading sexual health charity will be working throughout the week to ensure people are aware of services available to them. You can head to METRO’s website now to find out more.
Andrew Evans, CEO of METRO Charity said: “METRO is proud to be supporting the national Playing it Safe campaign for Sexual Health Week 2023. As a charity that works directly with the community and understands the connection between good physical, mental and sexual health: we know playing it safe is a great way to feel empowered, and support all three areas of your life.”
METRO will be going into schools, universities, libraries around the borough to spread the word about sexual health and hand out free condoms.
METRO’s outreach team will be at Woolwich Carnival on Saturday 16 September from 12 to 4pm offering test kits, free condoms, advice and more.
