Nominations are now open for the annual return of Greenwich in Bloom, allowing residents across the borough to show off their green fingers and planting skills. 

This fun competition is for everyone, with a special category for junior gardeners under 18.

You don’t need a garden to enter - there’s a category for hanging baskets, window boxes or pots - they just need to be passionate about planting! The categories for this year’s competition are: 

• Front garden  
• Back garden  
• Containers (including hanging baskets, window boxes or pots) 
• Communal garden  
• Junior gardener (entrants must be under 18) 

The competition, which is sponsored by Thompson Garden Centre, is open from Friday 2 June and ends Wednesday 19 July. Entries will be assessed by the Mayor of Greenwich and Councillor Adel Khaireh, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Equalities who will pick the winner.  As they’ll be judging off photos alone make sure you get that perfect shot! 

Cllr Adel Khaireh said: “Taking a look back at the last couple of years and the incredible submissions we received, I’m looking forward to seeing what our residents have to show off this year! 

“Outdoor space is one of the best ways to boost the immune system and reduce stress levels, so finding a way to celebrate what our communities make of the space they have is something we’re proud to champion as a Council.” 

The junior category is to showcase the talents of our younger residents and there’s even a £60 voucher for the winner!  

Every child that enters will get a packet of seeds to plant and the junior gardeners who receive 2nd and 3rd place will also receive a voucher.  

Prizes in the other four categories will be £60 for first place, £40 for second and £20 for third in vouchers for Thompson’s Plant and Garden Centres.
