June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month and the Royal Borough of Greenwich and partners will celebrate with a range of inclusive events for residents to get involved in.

As well as family workshops at our libraries, the Council is encouraging local organisations to sign our Equality and Equity Charter, joining our commitment to promote equality, diverisity and inclusion.

The Council will also run a programme of internal activities and workshops for staff to take part in, as well as flying the Pride progress flag above Woolwich Town Hall. The Pride Tent will also be returning at Together 23 in Charlton Park on Saturday 10 June.

LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated annually across the world in June, to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that took place in New York City on 28 June 1969.

Councillor Adel Khaireh, Cabinet Member for Equalities, Culture and Communities, said: “Head to our libraries this June to get involved with a host of Pride Month activities. Learn about LGBTQ+ artists and authors and get stuck into creating arts and crafts with the whole family. Don’t miss Mama G’s story time, which is all about celebrating your own identity!

“Pride Month is a dedicated time to celebrate LGBTQ+ people, as well as raising awareness of and challenging the issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community today. But it’s important that this continues all year round.

“In Royal Greenwich, we want to ensure that everyone in our community feels heard and valued and has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We’re committed to ensuring our borough is a place where people can feel safe and live, work and study free from discrimination.

Sign our Equality and Equity Charter now to join us in our pledge for equality across our borough.”
