Once again the majority of pupils have been offered or allocated a place at a school they told us they preferred, and even more students are choosing to go to school locally.

A total of 96.4% of students received a preference offer, with well over half getting their first-choice place. Of students who received an offer, 65.15% were given a place at their top preference. 

We received an increased number of applications this year, 3,271 compared to 3,238 in 2022, and 78% of students will be going to a local school, compared to 75% last year.

Councillor Matt Morrow, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

 “Moving on to secondary school is such an exciting time for a young person and it’s great to see so many students are choosing to stay at one of our local schools.

“Greenwich schools have great teachers, great facilities and get great results. With so many top preference places allocated too, I am sure that this generation of students will go on to be great in Greenwich too.

“All our schools are filled with hardworking and caring teachers, so I know that all our young people are in safe hands for when September rolls around.”

Where it was not possible to offer a preference school, pupils were given a place at the nearest school that had a vacancy.

Some families will still be waiting for confirmation on their child's place. We’re working hard to make sure that those families have a school place by the end of March.
